Help Needed

Our ward has been asked to provide a simple healthy meal for the sister missionaries working at the Temple Visitors Center on Thursday, Dec. 10th. The meal will need to be dropped off there before 3:30 p.m. There is money budgeted for this. We are looking to ask sisters only once every five years to participate in these extra assigned services. Please contact Carolyn Summerhays for details.

Nativity helpers are needed for the 1st Sat. in December at 8 a.m. to set up and the following Monday to take down at 9 a.m. Contact Tess Connell to volunteer.

Best Wishes!!

Rebecca Knudson enters the MTC in Provo, Utah, this Wednesday, heading for Moscow, Russia. We know she'll do a great job and represent the Lord well!

Welcome! Meet & Greet:

We welcome everyone who is officially in the Columbia 2nd Ward. A Meet & Greet has been planned for everyone who is new to come get to know the leaders of the ward. It will be this Friday, Nov. 20th, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in the Young Women's room (right off the kitchen.)

This will be a great time to get your son signed up for Scouting or just to find out who the members of the bishopric really are, and they are even providing refreshments. Please let your friends know if they weren't given an invitation on Sunday.

Produce Co-op

Some sisters in the Columbia 1st ward are trying to get a produce co-op up and running, modeled after the very successful one that's been in Catonsville for years. They will be hosting the co-op near the intersection of Harper's Farm Rd and 108. They are in need of a few more shares to make it a smooth-running operation.

Do you buy a lot of fresh produce?
If so, the Columbia Produce Co-op is perfect for you!

How much does it cost?
• A full share is $20 per week
• A half share is $10 per week

What are your responsibilities?
• Each Wed you or your partner if you are sharing, pick up your produce at Terri Lin Smith’s garage (off of Harper’s Farm Rd and 108). Produce is ready for pick up by 7:30 AM
• Five times a year, you and your partner will be responsible for choosing and buying the produce from the supplier in Jessup. You will buy the produce early in the morning, bring it to the garage, and have it divided up into each share’s baskets by 7:30 AM.
• Attend one annual meeting to decide what weeks everyone will be buying the produce.

If any families are interested they can contact Dani Gardner or Becky Garcia to get more information.

May Enrichment Activity Details

Hands-on Budget Workshop, Service, and Chit-chat

You can come with nothing and it will still be beneficial, but you will be more productive if you can bring as much of the following as possible. You can keep everything as confidential as you wish.

-The amount of income received in March and/or April, and an estimate of the amount for May and for June.
-The amount spent in March and/or April and what it was spent on.
-The value of major assets and liabilities, such as your house, savings, and loans.
-A calculator, laptop, or whatever you use when you do your finances.

There are a few ways you can get your income and expense information if you don’t already track your expenses.

-Collect all bank, credit card, and other account statements for all of your financial accounts for at least a month. You may need to print them if you receive e-statements.
-Collect bills, receipts, checkstubs, and paystubs for a month. Also track cash spending.
-Use your 2008 tax return to estimate your monthly income.

Enrichment Meetings, Activities, and Groups

What is the difference between Enrichment Meetings and Enrichment Activities?

We have four Enrichment Meetings each year. They are for all Relief Society Sisters. A children's class is provided during Enrichment Meetings. There is always an Enrichment Meeting to celebrate the Relief Birthday in March.

All other enrichment events are called "activities" and are for sisters with a common interest. We strive to have a variety of different activities so that all can participate, however, because of their more specialized nature, no one activity may appeal to all sisters and that is okay. There may be an activity in any month that there is not an Enrichment Meeting, but there doesn't have to be.

Enrichment Groups are a means for sisters with common interests to get together more often than for just one activity. Playgroup and Bookclub are two examples. These groups are run by the sisters in them according to what the needs and wants of the group are. Anyone who sees a need and would like to start up a group is welcome to.

The current Home, Family, and Personal Enrichment Program provides us a lot of flexibility to tailor what we do to the needs of the sisters in our ward.
The Enrichment board welcomes any feedback you may have about Enrichment in our ward.

Enrichment Meeting Dates for 2009
January 14th - Visiting Teaching Conference
March 11th - Relief Society Birthday Celebration
September 9th - TBA
December 9th - Christmas Event

Clothing Needs at Baltimore Bishop's Storehouse

We received this email from Mary Greenwood, the RS President of Columbia 1st:

"Sisters, when I was at the Baltimore Bishop's Storehouse on Saturday,
the women in the Clothing Exchange asked me to send a plea out
requesting clothing that would be appropriate for young women to wear to
church – they have a great need for this type of clothing. They also
have a great need for church clothing for women in large sizes – XL, 2X,
3X, etc."

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

A Message From the Stake Relief Society Presidency

Dear Sisters,
Just a few more days until our "Provident Living for Turbulent Times" event.
Friday, January 30, 7-9
Please be sure to attend. It won't be the same without you. And don't forget this is a great activity to invite a friend to come along.
If you haven't signed up to attend, come anyway. It will be worthwhile. And there is plenty of room for all who want to come.
There will not be any opening exercises, so you will need to come a little bit early so you have time to find where the class you have chosen is located. Opening exercises will be conducted in each individual class.
We will start promptly at 7 pm.
Please be prepared....we will not be serving any refreshments at this event. We want you to receive as much information as you can in a short 2 hour block, and at the end of Elder Hardy's address we would like you to be able to ponder his words as you go home, instead of focusing on whatever snacks we might have provided.
A nursery will be provided for those who need it.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Stake Relief Society Enrichment Night

"Provident Living in Turbulent Times."
Nursery will be provided. The Stake RS Presidency gives the following insight about this meeting: "We believe this is timely and will be worthwhile. We are having a Women's Conference format, but trying to make it easier for sisters to attend by having a condensed, one night only event. We hope that having it at night will help sisters to be able to attend more readily than making them give up a Saturday morning."
