It's back to school time again! Please come to the second annual back to school brunch on Tuesday Aug. 30 at 9:30 at Christina Hansen's home. All are invited as well as children who are not school-age. Please bring your favorite brunch dish to share. Email us if you need her contact info.

Pickles

Here is the Recipe for the Pickles:

EASY DILL PICKLES:

Brine: 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar

2 cups water

2 Tablespoons pickling salt

Boil Brine and pour over filled jar that has been packed with:

1 Slice onion

1 clove garlic

Fresh Dill

1 hot pepper (optional)

1 pinch Alum powder (helps cukes keep their crispiness)

Small Cucumbers

Tap jar to release any air bubbles. Seal with lid and band and Process in rolling water bath for 15 minutes.

As I traveled on beautiful sunshiny, tree-lined roads to visit Eldersburg ward's Relief Society this past Sunday, I decided to listen to Mormon Channel through an app on my phone ( I love technology!). Lo and Behold, playing was an episode of "Conversations" which had Sister Sheri Dew interviewing Sister Julie B. Beck and her daughters! I was so happy to stumble upon it! Does it get any better than that? Perhaps some of you have already heard it. In case you are not familiar with this website, here is the information.

I would counsel each of you to take time to watch her talk from the conference, and to consider listening to the Conversations episode in the near future. I personally can never get enough of hearing from Sister Beck. She is our direct Relief Society leader and our example. She discusses family, working mothers, finding balance, women's roles as defined by media and the world, our relationship with the Priesthood, Mary and Martha, preparing sisters for the temple, etc. It is a powerful talk. Please consider also sending these links out to your sisters. We will post them on our blog as well.

Sister Cornell is still at the Howard County hospital. She doesn't mind visits and would most likely appreciate them. Her family is out of town this week and so it would be great if any of you sisters, feel to pay a little short visit to her, she would like it. She cannot hear and so you communicate with her by writing on a little board she has in her room. You're welcome to bring a picture of Christ, flowers, no food.

Computer Speakers and Monitor Cords Needed for Family History Class

The family history center is looking for a donation of a set of computer speakers and 5 VGA monitor cords. These will be used for the family history class. If you have any extras at home, please, contact sister Merilee Clay.

Items to give away!

Hey ladies,

I have a huge pile of items that I'm planning to bring to a thrift store when I get the chance. If anyone is interested at looking to see if they want anything or know of someone who might be in need etc I'm willing to give anything away for free because I'm too lazy to sell it.
I know there are several small toys, baby bath, water dispenser, air filter machines that probably need filters but should work, some electronics, work out bands, and much more. Most of this has web in our storage and we figure we should just get rid of it.
Let me know if anyone is interested. Plus if any groups at church are interested I may have scrapbooking paper, sewing items to get rid of whe. I go through it so if there is a need let me know and I'll look for it.

BISHOP'S STORE HOUSE SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

Sisters;

Our ward is assigned to provide a few members to help to work at the Washington Bishop's Storehouse on Saturday, June 18. The shift goes from 8:30am till 4:00pm, lunch is provided. Even if you can do a half shift, please, consider to serve.

This assignment will be primarily to help patrons fill their orders, restock shelves, and maybe help pick some orders in the warehouse for satellite locations. Pretty light work, which can be handled by most people, though they will need to be able to spend some time on their feet.

Please, let Sister Campora know if you would benefit from this type op service. If interested, please, send her email.

PLAYGROUP Tuesdays at 9:30am!

Sisters, There will be a playgroup starting this next TUESDAY at 9:30am Rockburn Branch Park (follow the road past the Elementary school.) This "women's group" is open to any one who would like to attend!

The summer plan is to have a consistent playgroup running, so for now we will plan on Tuesday's at 9:30am every week. (Possibly starting 9am if it's getting too hot.) We will announce alternate locations as they arise, but for now, plan on Rockburn Park every tuesday at 9:30am!

Free Tree Stakes or Firewood

"I have a lot of free tree stakes (maybe 200) made of oak that can be used as garden stakes or firewood. They are about ¾” x ¾” and the longest is about 5 feet long. Most of the stakes have been broken and are of shorter lengths. Let me know if you are interested.

Stake Conference 2011 Schedule

Here is the schedule for Stake Conference coming up!

Wednesday, June 1
(All day) - Stake temple day
5pm - Temple priesthood room meeting (endowed members only, 7th floor of Washington DC Temple)

June 6 - June 10
(All week) - Stake conference temple week; all stake/ward activities/meetings canceled

Saturday, June 11
4pm - Stake Priesthood Leadership Meeting (stake center)
7pm - Adult Session (stake center)

Sunday, June 12
10am - General Session (see below)

The Sunday General Session will be held at the stake center for the Columbia 2nd, Ellicott City, Eldersburg, and Hampstead Wards and Columbia 3rd Branch. It will be broadcast to the Clarksville meetinghouse for the Columbia 1st and Savage Mill Wards. Regardless of where members meet for the general session, all should arrive early and carpool as much as possible.
